I was unable to attend Sara's funeral as I live out of state. Will you be posting the video that was played? I would love to see it and share it with my family.

My condolences to the entire Herakovich family. I have been reading this journal for quite a while but have never written. However, over the past few days, my heart feels so heavy that I decided to finally write. I am honored to have known Saralie and am thrilled to know Rainy. My grandson, Ian, is one of Rainy's best friends and, therefore, Rainy and Saralie have become a part of my family's lives. What an awesome person Saralie was. I think she has educated many of us to try to be better human beings because she was so positive and so much fun. Her strength throughout her illness was amazing. She definitely lives on in her son. Rainy has the same qualities of "positivity" and fun to be with. God bless you, Saralie. We all love you. Linda Flynn.

I echo those sentiments: God bless Saralie. Gosh, is there anyone out there who had the good fortune to meet her or know her that didn't like her...I think it must be very rare to find such a person, one who has the same positive effect on everyone she ever came across. What an exceptional person she was in every way. My heart and prayers are with the Herakovich family as well - how proud you must be of her. I don't think things will ever be the same without Saralie here, but as somebody already said, the world is definitely a better place for Saralie having been in it.

To the Herakovich Family, my deepest and most sincere condolences to your family. I was deeply saddened to find out about Saralie. Words cannot express the devastating loss that we are all feeling right now. I knew Sara from high school and graduated the same year. She was such a sweet person, always polite and always had a smile on her face. I was just thinking about her the other day, because I ran across some items from my Munster High days and wondered about some of my classmates. I just found out about her passing today. My family is no stranger to cancer and had I known she was sick, I would have done my very best to make her laugh and forget what she was going through, even if it was just for a moment. I will always remember her laughter and joy for life. God bless her! You will be missed! Sandra Spenos Payne

After returning home from saying goodbye to Saralie today, in my sadness and tears, I read another section of "The Prophet," the book Sara gave me years ago, hoping that it could give me some clarity, some peace of mind....so I read the last section that spoke of death, and it said...."You are not enclosed within your bodies, not confined to houses or fields. That which is you dwells above the mountain and roves with the wind. It is not a thing that crawls into the sun for warmth or digs holes into the darkness for safety, But a thing free, a spirit that envelops the earth and moves the ether." ...and reading these words do give me some peace of mind.... i know that sara is free, enveloping the earth and each of us..... love always, Ana A.

Just returned home from Saralie's funeral and checked my email. My sister, Hope, was a classmate of Saralie's as my father coached her in softball in her younger years. My sister, Hope's email said, " I remember that she was spunky and pretty and people admired her." She couldn't have said it better. I have thought of Saralie daily and will continue to do so. She will forever be in my thoughts and prayers. Jenny Frank

Dear Darcy, We'll all miss Saralie and her ability to make the world smile. Our best wishes go out to your entire family, especially Rainy. I was a Munster classmate of Saralie's and although I hadn't seen her in several years, I often checked the jounal. Thank you for keeping it. Reading it often times gave me, and likely others, a more grounded perspective on our lives. I more often hugged my kids, my wife, and picked up the phone to call my brothers. It may have made each of us just a bit better wife, husband, parent, sibling, son or daughter. Thank you.

Everyday I will strive to be a better person/friend/mother because of Sara. What a truly wonderful person she was. She has inspired me to be the best I can be. I have NEVER met a more positive person than Saralie. I will miss her smile and laughter forever but know that she is now looking(smiling) down on us all. My prayers are with you and your family forever, for I will never forget you, Saralie Herakovich, my friend!! xoxoxoxo Ellen

One more thing: A friend of mine is running in the Chicago Marathon this October 12th. His entrance fee will all go to the American Cancer Society. I have made a donation to him and I have asked him to run in memory of Saralie. She will really be missed. Best regards, Matthew Efron

Dear Herakovich family, I am so sorry and so sad to hear of Saralie's passing. I haven't written on this journal yet, but I have thought about Saralie and her battle almost daily. She was so brave and strong in her battle. I feel honored to have known her. I recall seeing her in the halls at Munster High and her smile was infectious. It always brightened my day. She will be truly missed. My deepest condolences to your family, and especially Rainy. I have never met him, but he seems like a very special boy. My heart goes out to him. Best regards, Matthew Efron

Dear Herakovich family...my thoughts and prayers are with you as you deal with losing a very important person in your lives. I want you to know that she also touched many lives at Frank Hammond. She was a ray of sunshine at our school whenever she entered. From volunteering here, to "sneaking" into Rainy's classroom to give him a hug during the day, to passing out popsicles to the kids leaving school, she brought cheer to so many. I know that you have a great deal of support and Rainy will thrive just knowing that his mom is well now and she was so loved by so many. Hugs to Rainy, who has and will continue to walk in his mom's footsteps. He reminds me of Sara so much. Take care. Christina Brunetti (FHH social worker)

I think everyone has said it so perfectly, the world is a better place because Saralie has been in it and it will continue to shine because Rainy is here and she is her legacy, her biggest accomplishment. There is no family better or stronger than the Herakovich's. My heart is with all of you and I wish you all peace in your hearts. Love, Rachel

I think my son Joey said it best....."Sara was the nicest person I will meet in my whole life. She was too good for Earth."........ Even children realized how special she was.

To The Herakovich Family, Please know that although we are not close by to show our condolences in person, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I promise to go to my parish and light a candle on behalf of Saralie - for that candle will represent her everlasting light and glow that she had shown upon many of us. When my Dad passed away this year, I gave my sisters a Maltese Cross charm (or fireman's cross), which said..."The Lord Watch Between Me and Thee While We Are Absent One From Another." And I believe everyday that he gives me the strength to live a full and happy life while we are apart. If we are lucky - my Dad and Saralie are hopefully watching "The Bears" together! Maybe for them...they'll finally win another Super Bowl :) Love, Sharon Pavol-Clarken & Family

RITA THE STRONG ONE, JUST REMEMBER GOD NEVER GIVES US MORE THAN WE CAN HANDLE.MAY HE COMFORT YOU IN THIS TIME OF NEED,YOUR IN MY PRAYERS.
